Royal an Lochan
Tighnabruaich

Since 1865 The Royal an Lochan has been serving food and drink to locals and visitors alike. Sitting on the shore front between Kames and Tighnabruaich village centres the hotel is an ideal base to visit the Cowal Peninsula whether by car or foot.
The hotel comprises of 11 individually decorated double and twin bedrooms with the majority having wonderful views over the Kyles of Bute. You can sit and watch the world go by, or maybe the last seagoing paddle steamer, The Waverly, as it passes our front door. Relax in a comfy armchair with our home-made shortbread and a glass of your favourite tipple and looking from your bedroom window you may catch a glimpse of the dolphins, seals or porpoises that frequent our waters along with the numerous yachts that pass by. In addition to our big and spacious bedrooms we have a number of public rooms, the lounge is a large area with a number of sofas and upright chairs which leads into the sun lounge with more sofas and chairs and stunning views of the Kyles and the world outside. Our breakfast rooms have views out to sea and views of the garden with our ever-popular bird table. We also have The Shinty Bar, where many guests like to sit so they can have a ‘blether’ with some of the locals who have many a story to tell. The bar serves traditional bar food and seafood along with a selection of Fyne Ales draught and bottled beers.
The Deck Restaurant Menu is served in two areas both with large windows looking over the Kyles. The menu consists of locally sourced produce including beef from the Isle of Bute and seafood from Tarbert. You may wish to have seafood for starter and main course, although we also have a locally sourced non-seafood menu if you fancy something different or some of your party do not eat seafood, and to complete the meal maybe a Hot Chocolate Fondant or a Gin & Tonic Parfait. All our dishes are made from scratch in the kitchen so if you have an allergy just ring ahead and we can adjust a dish to suit you.
With views over the Kyles and beyond from most rooms, once you arrive you will instantly feel relaxed, the staff at The Royal an Lochan are dedicated to ensuring that all our guests enjoy every second of their stay with us.... To us “you’re not a room number, you’re a person!”
Our Shinty Bar and Deck Restaurant are open to Non-residents and we offer free Wi-Fi to all guests and ask for a small donation to the RNLI for non-residents wishing to use it. We are also members of The Scottish Hotels of Distinction and are recommended in The Michelin Guide
